Remedial massage is a tailored treatment focusing on an individual’s specific pain patterns and/or injuries. The therapist will use a wide range of techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage and PNF stretching to assist the body with its natural healing process. These techniques can be intense but they are most effective in treating chronic issues with good results.
Relaxation massages primarily focus on the relaxation of the client and to relieve the symptoms of stress and anxiety. This will be perfect for you if you prefer a lighter pressure massage and just want to enjoy the experience.

Firstly you can expect a run through of the history of your pain/injury/condition, then a hands on treatment tailored to you, based on that information.
The sessions are time based. In other words you select the amount of time you wish, and it is also up to you with what you’d like to do in those times. Whether it is remedial or relaxation or a mixture of both. This will all be discussed at the beginning of your appointments.
This is different for everyone! Massage is best used as a complementary treatment if you are looking for long term solutions. The main focus of massage is pain relief and injury prevention so for most people the maintenance time between treatments vary from 1 - 8 weeks depending on the severity of your conditions/pain.
Most of the time the appropriate process is to get a few treatments within a short period of time to get on top of the problem. Once you are feeling better, that is when you can start distancing the treatments out and aiming for maintenance treatments (usually every 4-6 weeks)
Everybody is different, but it is quite common to feel sore, tired and a bit groggy after a remedial massage. Don’t stress! This is completely normal and will only last 24-48 hours. This is caused by the toxins and waste materials being released back into the blood stream as they are broken down and flushed out through the lymphatic system.
The soreness you may feel is from the manual manipulation of the muscle and fascia. Just think when you do a gym workout you create micro tears in the muscle to allow it to grow stronger and repair. It is the same sort of process where the muscle and scar tissue has been manually broken down to allow more blood flow and free restrictions.
It is very important after a remedial massage to rehydrate. With all of the toxins coursing through your body again, the extra water will help break it down and flush it out.
Keeping hydrated is also important for the structural integrity of your muscle and connective tissues. Think about how your skin feels when you are dehydrated (dry & rough) it is the same for your muscle tissues. They become sticky and won’t glide over each other as they should, contributing to dysfunctional movement.
If you are an active person it is advised to take it easy after a massage treatment. No heavy lifting or high resistance training. Try a light walk or some light stretches/yoga to encourage the healing process.
